How to Increase Sales Growth: Create Engaging Media

Owning and maintaining an online shop can be daunting when you are first getting your business off the ground. It takes a lot of time and effort to get people interested enough to become customers. Sometimes, you may need to overtly seek attention by tapping into what people want to see and can relate to. In many cases, this means you need to create engagement objects.

Engagement objects are interactive things that people can experience on your website. This can include pictures, videos, gifs, info-graphics, etc. Anything that will grasp attention to keep visitors of your site there for as long as possible.

This is an easy tip on how to increase sales growth. By keeping people engaged, they are more likely to continue exploring your site. This leads them to be more likely to buy your products.

The idea of people coming to your website just to leave it shortly after refers to your bounce rate. Having a high bounce rate is not a good thing. You should work to improve it by adding more content so that people do not have a reason to leave so soon.

Now that you can see the advantages to having fresh and compelling content, allow me to give some examples of how you can accomplish just that. So let’s jump into it!

Images

Adding pictures to your website is one of the easiest ways of getting people’s attention. There are many different things you can say with a picture (they say they’re worth a thousand words!), and you can decide its purpose. It can be informative, entertaining, aesthetically-pleasing, or all of the above.

Depending on what you want to say with an image, there are countless options. If you specifically want to drive sales, then you can make sure to have beautiful, hi-def photos of your products.

Another thing to be wary of is how recent they are. You wouldn’t want to use a picture that uses the old packaging of a product you’re selling. Customers might be confused as to whether they received the correct item if it does not correspond to the image.

On the other hand, if your sole purpose is to intrigue people to stay on your website, then you can choose images based on their entertainment value.

Video

Video is a fantastic way to reach people. For many things, especially reading large blocks of text, people lose interest after about 8 seconds. You have to be really crafty with words to hold people’s attention, but there’s more to it with video.

The added advantage of having visual and sound with what you are trying to convey can capture a watcher more easily than if they are just reading. In a day and age where constant entertainment is required, the allure of watching a video outweighs that of reading text.

Did you actually read my bit about how humans have an 8-second attention span or did you learn it from this video? ASAPscience, a channel on YouTube, does an amazing job of making thought-provoking videos paired with a fun, cartoon format.

Even if you did read my fact, you probably wouldn’t have remembered it for too long because I didn’t pair it with anything else. This video uses the comparison of a fish, with fun visuals so that it will most likely stay in your brain for longer.

Interactions on Social Media

Lately, it seems that businesses are becoming more and more self-aware on their social media accounts. Large corporations are spreading memes, being relatable, and talking about how “lit” they are. You may want to consider hopping on this train. Giving a face and personality to your business seems to be a pretty good tactic.

Even Wendy’s the popular fast food joint has gotten a following because they started “roasting” people on Twitter. Not only do they give helpful feedback to customers, they also throw shade at their competitors, namely McDonald’s and Burger King.

Having this kind of interaction brings a lot of attention, as you can see from the thousands of likes and retweets. The sass tactic seems to be working.

Going any of these routes by adding content like this to your page or social media accounts has the potential to keep visitors interested. Not only that, but they may want to share your content, too. This gives you an opportunity to reach a lot of people who you wouldn’t have otherwise.

However, it looks like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) just voted to end net neutrality. So pretty soon it’ll be a toss-up as to whether or not you can still afford the Internet in order to keep your small business running. Hopefully we all still have jobs.
