Opportunities in Wholesale Skin Care Products
Opportunities in Wholesale Skin Care Products
Breaking into the category of wholesale skin care products for your online store is a fantastic opportunity. The demand for skin care has a far reach, and feeding that demand has the potential for profit. The profit margin is also an important factor. For the most part, skin care products are a luxury good that are not necessary to everyday life, but people are willing to pay more because of that fact.
By selling different categories of skin care, you may find your customer base growing to include all different groups of people. For example, organic products are especially popular the more people start to care about ethically-sourced ingredients. Specializing in organic could make you gain loyal customers. There are plenty of products to consider that can have this affect.
Why People Buy Skin Care Online
It’s obvious why people buy skin care. They want to look and feel younger, they want clearer skin, less wrinkles, and the assurance that they will age better than their parents did. Perhaps a more perplexing question is why people buy these products online.
Why do people buy anything online? Convenience certainly has a hand in the matter. But skin care specifically could be because of how long it typically lasts and the benefits of buying in bulk. Skin care products do not usually have expiration dates printed on, and people do not expect them to spoil. This makes them one of the perfect things to purchase online and in bulk. When people find a skin care product that they like, that works, and that has a decent price, there is a good percentage who will want to buy as much as they can at one time.
Stocking up on your favorite products has become an easy marketing technique for sellers because consumers will jump on the chance to buy as much of their favorite anti-wrinkle cream as possible if they can get it at a discounted price. There is also a fear that consumers have that stores will discontinue their favorite product and they won’t be able to find a good replacement, so they buy a lot at once. They would end up buying more anyway, so why not now while it’s on sale?
Categories of Skin Care
Different categories of beauty and personal care will yield different results in consumer interest and profit. As a seller, you can choose to have one or all of them. They each have potential for profit, but you can figure out which categories are best for your customers.
Arguably, the two main categories for skin care are medicinal and luxury. Of course, there are subcategories for both and you might find some that cross over.
Medicinal Skin Care
There are some skin care products that people need to stay healthy. These may not always be necessary for everyone, but there are people who need them and selling them can be helpful. Price is something to consider with these types of products. Since people need them rather than want them, you have to offer them at a fair price. If not, they might get the same type of product from someone else.
There are a number of items that people need for different skin conditions. You need sunscreen for the summer to prevent sunburn, but not if you live in a colder climate. Lotion is necessary for dry and cracked skin. People use different ointments for ailments like fungus, warts, psoriasis, acne, etc. These are all conditions that need treatments, which you can provide by selling personal care goods.
Luxury Skin Care
Then there are goods that people do not particularly need, but that they want or have convinced themselves they need. These seem to be a bit pricier because of their effects and the consumer demand. This is not to say that you can charge an arm and a leg for these items, but just that the margins tend to be a bit higher because they are considered luxury.
Products in this category tap into people’s needs to look better in order to feel good about themselves. There’s nothing wrong with feeling attractive and putting in effort to look good for yourself. Studies have shown that if you perceive yourself as good-looking, then you are more likely to be healthy. People who buy products to achieve this are just following a psychological instinct to be healthier.
Examples of these kinds of items include skin brighteners, toners, anti-aging creams, cleansers, masks, and scrubs. They all have cosmetic purposes, but they can also promote healthy skin.
Organic Products
I would consider organic skin care to be a subcategory of luxury goods, but it can also be used for health purposes. Going organic is typically for health reasons, and to promote humane ingredients. Organic ingredients are not necessary in getting the results customers want. However, they do make buyers feel guilt-free in using them. Like luxury items, organic products can be sold at higher prices because it is a specialty that not all beauty companies partake in.
No matter what types of beauty goods you decide to sell, you are getting into a sales category that many consumers are interested in. Keep you customers and your goals in mind to get the most out of your inventory you can.
